KEEP
AUSTIN COLORFUL Austin
Art in August Street
Photography by Raoul Hashimoto |
While
“Keep Austin Weird” has been the unofficial slogan of Austin
for who-knows-how-many years, there have been other pleas for other cities. Writer
Clay Coppedge
has coined the much-easier-to-comply-with slogan of “Keep Lubbock
Flat” for his hometown. The Big Tony has had “Keep San
Antonio Lame” attached to it by a (currently unknown) wit from
that city.
Weird, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder and sensitive
beholders aren’t always wanting weird. Color, however is a perennial crowd pleaser
and in this galley of spontaneous and accidental photos, we hope that at least
for August, we can marry colorful with weird and ask that “street art” be given
a modicum of respect. - Editor |
