mixed. Critics said it was too Oriental to be a federal building. Employees entered
on Fannin Street, the public on Franklin. Date

French Renaissance Revival building. Alfred Muller architect. At one time the
Galveston Market occupied the bottom. Damaged in the great storm of 1900, the
staircase, tower and entire third floor were removed. After a new city hall was
built in 1916, the building was used as both a fire and police station. Razed
