History in a Pecan Shell

The community was begun as a Seventh-day Adventist colony around 1914. It’s early history is underreported and it remains primarily a Seventh-day community with a church and a school (the Adventist Jefferson Rural Academy).

From the early 1960s when it’s population was a reported 142 people, it declined to 74 in the 1970s, growing to an estimated 250 by the end of the 1980s.
