History in a Pecan
Shell
Logan was also known as Mount Pleasant (not to be confused
with the Titus County Seat). Settled prior
to the Civil War, the name was taken from the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist
Church which was organized in the 1880s.
A school was in operation around
1900 and was also known as the Mount Pleasant school. The name change occurred
when a post office was applied for and the name is said to come from the Louisiana
town of Logansport. The post office closed in 1910 and by the 1930s the population
was a mere 10 residents.
The current estimated population is 40 and the
community still retains the church and cemetery.
