MIXED EMOTIONS

by David Knape

We think of all the memories
attached to this place
the winding road to get here
how it came to be

now in our leaving
we find it hard to let go
we knew it as a place of joy
we look into uncertainty

but life goes on
and places come and go
the place we are going to
begins a new chapter in our lives

so we close the door
and say goodbye
caught between what was
and what is yet to be

there is sorrow in the leaving
yet excitement for what lies ahead
we cope with the anxiety
we struggle with our mixed emotions.
