WHERE FLOWERS BLOOM

by David Knape
Where Flowers Bloom

Who would expect
a flower to bloom
on cold concrete
with so little room
no soil, no place
to make a home
still like a weed
it roots and grows

Somehow a seed
got stuck between
the concrete where
it makes a seam
there on concrete
it grew to be
a miracle
one can believe

We must make note
of this lone plant
that would not relent
on earth so scant
to bloom instead
as if heaven sent
how it deserves
our compliments

Oh would that we
had such good faith
to persevere
in so sad a place
to then embrace
our given fate
a golden smile
upon our face.
