History
in a Pecan ShellThe
community has no 19th Century history but was developed in the early 1970s as
a resort community. The name doesn’t refer to the shape of a lake or bay, but
the finding of an actual horseshoe in the lakebed.
Populated by retirees
and weekend residents from Austin, the
population has more than doubled between 1990 and 2000 when it reported 3,337
residents. The community acquired its own post office in the mid 1990s.
