History in a Pecan Shell

Mountain Home’s most significant event was the 1878 Dowdy family massacre. The last Indian attack in Kerr County, it took the lives of four children.

The following year the community obtained a post office.

In the early years of the 20th century, the community was known as Eura. Early population figures aren’t available, but at the end of WWII, Mountain Home counted 150 residents.

The post office served 350 families in this part of Kerr County. The region is home to many summer camps and the town still maintains several businesses.
