History in a Pecan Shell

The town was named after local storekeeper Josiah Rainwater's hometown in Kentucky about 1890. Settlement had been about ten years earlier. The post office was in operation from 1893 through 1904. By 1933 there were only ten citizens in Waterloo and the Waterloo school consolidated with Thrall in 1949. The town had a population of sixty from 1949 through 2000.

Waterloo, Texas photo?
Could you please tell me if this is Waterloo Texas? Statue of the soldier [reads] 1846-1848.
Thanks - Mike Wallraff, March 03, 2006

Waterloo downtown and soldier statue 1846-48

Our guess would be Waterloo, Iowa. The town pictured is too developed for the Waterloo in Williamson County - and Austin stopped using the name Waterloo very early in its history. We know of no monuments for the Mexican War in Texas. - Editor
