History in a Pecan Shell

T. W. Hart established his ranch headquarters here in 1899. Part of this establishment involved skiding his house from neighboring Swisher County – miles to the East. In 1900 a post office was opened in the Hart house and they started selling groceries as well. The first school/ church was a single building built in 1902.

Hart was organized in 1925 when the Fort Worth and Denver South Plains Railway announced they would build a depot. The depot was finished the next year. In 1928 the business district moved nearly a mile to be on the railroad. The school was moved to be nearer the town center in 1936 and by 1940 the town had a population of 600.
