The Former Cistern School in 2005

Photo January 2005
It was build in 1941 from wood from the old original school. The school was owned by John Beck, who was the superintended of Cistern School Dist., he bought it from the Flatonia School Dist. after they took over the Cistern school system. I bought it from his son about 3 1/2 years ago. My grandmother was the cook at this school, her last name was Frebert. I do want to fix it up, and there is NO plans on tearing it down in the future. The original land was owned by a Janceka. - Daniel Kalinec, February 08, 2002

Editor's note:
We start our "Texas Schoolhouses" series with the Cistern School in Fayette County. The school looks as though it only needs a coat of paint and classes could be held tomorrow. We have no information on the Cistern School, but chose it for its simple appearance and utilitarian style. We hope that one or more of our readers can offer some information. - June, 2001
