History in
a Pecan Shell
Originally called Singleton's when it was settled in the1870s, a post
office was opened (briefly) under that name in 1878. The renaming
had been suggested by a man in Waxahachie and the residents of Singleton's
agreed. Mail that had gone to Singleton's now was sent to Mountain
Peak, Texas.
The populatiopn had increased to 160 by the mid-1890s. Postal service
was discontinued in 1906 and by the 1920s, the population had declined
to less than 100 people. The population had been estimated at 50 from
the 1930s through the 1970s. |
