History in a Pecan
Shell The town was founded by early settler James A. Potts who had
donated the land for the town in 1876. Potts also donated a right-of-way to tempt
the Missouri, Kansas and Texas to run a spur from Denison,
which it did. The now prospering community incorporated in 1880, and had a healthy
population of 200 by 1885. A post office was granted in 1891. The population
was 500 in 1925 but declined to around 358 by the mid 1930s. It has since grown
due to its proximity to Denison. |

Note: Subject: Pottsboro Most of the old downtown area. Municipal offices
seems to be the only occupied. Retailing has moved over to highway 120.
The
railroad 'underpass' is just west of town and is beautifully set up to get you
with 90 degree turns going both directions. There're crosses to prove it. -
