History
in a Pecan Shell
Ira Bean was one of the town's first settlers. He became the town's first
postmaster when one was granted in 1904 - and was opened in his store. The community
had originally been named Horger after John Horger, president of a college
at nearby Newton.
The population was a mere 20 persons in 1914. Since Horger's mail was
frequently confused with Borger's mail - a new office was opened and named Bean's
Place in 1925 while the Horger post office stayed open until 1929.
