History in a Pecan Shell

Initial settlement occurred around the same time as Independence (1836). An influx of people fleeing the scorched Southern States helped boost population after the Civil War but still, Hodgson's population never broke 200.

The community may have gone under a different name prior to the opening of a post office in 1893 (Hodgson was the name of the first postmaster).

The post office closed in 1904 and six years later the population was a mere 25 residents.

The 1940 Census report an increase to 35, but after that no records were kept.

One business was reported in the mid 1980s.
