Photographer's Note: Subject:
Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant/ Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge "The
site of the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant has recently been turned into a Wildlife
Refuge near Caddo Lake. We were caught off guard when we showed up to find all
these massive stone walls peeking out of the forest! Not just the remains of one
or two buildings, but a BUNCH. Now it's a little confusing. There are roads and
buildings everywhere, but a good portion of everything is closed off to the public.
There are parts open to horseback, I believe. I'm not sure how close you can get
to many of the remains. This was the only building we found without a sign posted
to stay out. It was getting dark and we had two sleepy kids. An adventure to be
continued another day. We are betting winter is the best time to view this. We
were there in the Spring and it was hard to see through all the vegetation.
