LIKE LIZARDS

by David Knape
Who knows how poems happen
or where they come from,
Poems are like lizards
they bask in the sun

When discovered
how quickly they run,
Till a poet who's quicker
can finally catch one

As soon as the poem is
safely in hand,
the poet will pet it
show it to a friend

So proud of the catching
hoping that it forgives,
soon he'll release it
and hope that it lives.

Poet's Note: About this poem-
Sometimes a poem won't cooperate. A poet has to chase it down, The fun is in the catching, when the poem is finally in hand.
