Strays
come in and out of our lives
whether people, dogs or cats,
those straying from the straight and narrow
lost souls on life's long path
Let us give shelter to these strays
who need a helping hand,
for we ourselves may one day stray
one day may need a friend
For all the strays who come to us
with nothing left to lose,
have mercy on their tender souls
for we
might also choose
That self-same path that drew them in
then lead to a dead-end,
for all we know, there too we go
except for caring friends.
