    Talking To Mom

    by David Knape

    Remember mom
that little squatty santa claus toy
    that you always had out
    for Christmas
    that chubby little doll ringed
with long white hair and curly beard
    that always drew attention
and comments from kin and guests
    remember the one
that was supposed to play jingle bells
    but didn't
the santa that your grandsons liked so much
    and played with every Christmas
    do you remember mom
    well now
    your greatgrandson
    the one you never knew
    is playing with it
    and loving it so dearly
    you would be proud
    and even though it's about
    the same size he is
he carries it around with him
    like a security blanket
takes it with him from room to room
dances with it when music comes on
and takes it to bed with him
    when he spends the night
he loves your red santa mom
and it brings him great joy
    and happiness
    his face lights up
    - when he sees it and
a big smile comes across his face
    when he finds your santa

just wanted you to know mom
    that your santa
    and your love
    lives on.
