The Secret Of Ammannsville

by David Knape

The secret of Ammannsville
lies in its sweet stillness
as if the world had passed it by
and left it alone to be forgotten

Alone to be itself
a place of soft sounds
and precious solitude
evoked in statues
tombstones
cedar trees
and songbirds
the simplicity of the past

Just a bend in the road
a one lane place
a church
a hall
a cemetery
that's all there is

For me
that's all there needs to be
let it stay
like it is
forever.
