History on a Pinhead

First named Salt Branch after the creek of the same name, the former town dates from the early 1870s. It is reported that several families relocated here from Blaconia.

In 1905 the tiny community had a two-teacher school for the area’s children and at one time had two stores. The school and a small church were still shown on maps in 1940 although population figures are unavailable.

Photographer's Note:
““Back in the 1970's I remember a few outbuildings left and a lone gravesite. A few years ago I went to look for the gravesite and found it barely visible through the new deer-proof fence. Last time I passed I could not see it visible. This lone gravestone is the only evidence of this community" - Will Beauchamp
