History in a Pecan Shell

The town of Schattel got off to a late start by Texas standards. The idea of namesake S. H. Schattel was to create a colony for his fellow Bohemians in the 1920s. The town was granted a post office in 1924 and within a few years the town had a school. Figures aren't available for the Depression years, but after WWII the town had fifty residents. In 1970 the town had a population of 130 - the same figure used for the 1990 census.
