History in a Pecan Shell

Walhalla was a German settlement from the 1830s until the beginning of the 20th Century.

The community was a voting precinct for some time around 1900 and included a post office, blacksmith and a doctor. One family opened a syrup making facility that processed cane and was in continuous operation from 1914 to 1942.

Most of the town's buildings were torn down before 1970. The school was moved, and then the students were assigned to the Round Top - Carmine School District.

The store Hall's Walhalla USA was opened in 1984 and also served as a restaurant and bar. It was for sale in 2000. The estimated population of Walhalla is fifteen persons.

Valhalla in Norse Mythology was a sort of heavenly welcoming station for battle-slain heroes.

Just a note to let you know the HALL'S WALHALLA USA Restaurant and Bar was sold May 30, 2006. My brother-in-law, sister, and I purchased it and have now restored the old building into a Bed & Breakfast. We basically kept the outside, and have refinished the inside with mostly reclaimed items. We are very proud of the Walhalla USA Cot - N - Coffee. Thanks, Beverly Harper, April 24, 2008
