History in a Pecan Shell

Texas' "other" Mesquite hasn't been overburdened with mistaken identity for the Mesquite in Dallas County. The school pictured above came into being circa 1905 and reportedly closed sometime during the 1930s.

The Handbook of Texas makes a rather broad understatement when it states that "Mesquite is located in a relatively isolated area apart from major highways." It may come as a surprise to many people that Borden County has a second city.
