History in a Pecan Shell

The San Benito and Rio Grande Valley Railway came through the area connecting Fernando with Santa Maria in 1913. Bluetown was established in the early 1940s. The name is said to have come from when the military was conducting war games along the border. The army was divided into opposing sides of Red and Blue. The "Blue Army" according to one sourse is said to have had its headquarters near this site.

In 1945 Bluetown had a population of seventy-five in 1945 which increased to 100 by 1950. In the early 1990s its population was still estimated at forty. A colonia (also named Bluetown) developed during the 1960s, and by 1976 it had an estimated population of 396. In 1986 estimated population was 410.
