| History
in a Pecan Shell Point Comfort is a recent arrival on the Texas town
scene, despite its location on Lavaca Bay. It was the third town to be
incorporated in Calhoun County and that only happened in July of 1953.
The main shopping district of Point Comfort has a distinct 1950s appearance and
could very well become a future example of a multi-store commercial strip. Even
though the stores now serve other businesses, it's easy to see the anchor store
was a grocery. |

Alcoa Plant at Point Comfort TE photo |
| It
was a planned community from the very beginning and the plans included a library
and pool. Although it's proximity to the Alcoa Plant gives it the appearance
of a company town, the plant and chemical companies came years later. The neighborhoods
have houses that perfectly match the neighborhoods of SE Houston and Pasadena.

The
amenities of Point Comfort do not appear overtaxed. There's always room at the
pool and boat ramp and Port Lavaca is just
a short drive across the causeway. Book
