History in a Pecan Shell

Settled in the early 1870s, it was named after Sam and W.T. Bunger. The underpopulated town was too close to the county seat to insure growth, but a post office opened in 1909.

The post office closed in 1920 but reopened the following year and remained open until the mid 1950s.

The 1940 census counted 25 residents and remained near that level until the 2000 census counted 40 residents.
