History in a Pecan Shell

Farmer Calvin Stevenson Knott is the namesake of both East and West Knott. The two towns had a population of 200 in 1928 and by 1931 there was a post office in Knott.

Once famed for its watermelons, the population of Knott was 350 in 1947. It peaked at 685 in the 1960s - and the same number has been used ever since.

"Calvin Stevenson Knott was my great-great grandfather. My grandfather, Hamilton Howard Knott wrote a memoir of his grandfather, I've sent along 2 attachments. There are 2 pictures of Calvin. One is with his beloved wife, Amy Julia... It is my grandfather writing about his grandfather. - Suzanne Knott Carnaroli, February 18, 2019

Poem by David Knape:

KNOTT, TEXAS

Just a place
that time forgot,
it was neglected
now it's Knott

It was dry
and it was hot,
could it be
if it was knott?

On the map
it's just a spot
is it funny?
No it's Knott!

~d. Knape
