The
Post Office in Morgan Mill
TE photo, February 2004 |
History in
a Pecan Shell
Partners M. C. Laughlin and J. R. Billingsley moved a corn and wheat
mill here sometime before 1874. A store opened two years later. George
Morgan bought into the mill in 1877 and was influential enough to
have the post office named after him when it opened that same year.
First called Morgan's Mill - the 's was dropped in 1892.
The town has had a quiet history through the years and from a population
of only 143 in 1900, it seems to have hit its zenith in 1940 when
there were 261 Morgan Millers living there. Many residents are retirees
or commute to Fort Worth
or Dallas. |
