History in
a Pecan Shell
Tokio was settled as early as 1868. It became a stop on the Texas
Central Railroad in 1882. It shares its name with a Terry County
town - and that was the one that was granted a U. S. post office
as Tokio.
Tokio here underwent a change in name during WWII to Wiggins.
The population was 25 in 1910 and it only increased to 28 in the
1940s. The school consolidated with West, Texas in 1945 and the
old name resurfaced.
