History in
a Pecan Shell
Founded on
the James Smith survey, the land was transferred to James
Pinckney Henderson in 1852. The predominantly German-immigrant
town was granted a post office in 1880. The name that was submitted
was Womack – but it isn’t known who the town was named after. The
post office closed its doors in 1906. Little is known of events
through the 20s and 30s, but the estimated population in prior to
WWII was 40
residents. Shortly after the war it was reduced to only 20, but
was reported as 25 for the last quarter of the 20th century.
