History on a Pinhead

Settler Thomas DeWees is the town's namesake.

The town dates from 1870 and had a post office from 1906 to 1911. The town spend a quiet history with no disasters to report. Dewees had a school and a simple store in the 1930s and a few businesses managed to stay open through the 70s. The Dewees cemetery still remains and is marked on detailed county maps.
