History in a Pecan Shell

The town of Briscoe had no 19th Century history. It was formed in 1929 by the Lone Star Township Company and named for J. B. Briscoe, an official with the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railroad. A post office was opened the following year and from a population of 150 in 1939 - it peaked in the early 1960s with 270 citizens - dropping to 210 for the 1980 Census and further still to the current 135 (shown for both the 1990 and 2000 Census).
