History on a Pinhead

Bitter Lake was the town’s original name, but storekeeper D. Cook renamed it after his Minnesota hometown when the community was granted a post office in 1890.

Northfield had a population of 25 in 1946 which it continued to use for the 1980 census. It was reported as 15 in 1990 and again in 2000.
