History in
a Pecan Shell
Founded in 1885, Incorporated in 1928
Benjamin is
the only town we know of that was named after someone struck by
lightning. Benjamin Bedford was the son of the town founder and
first postmaster, Hilory H. Bedford.
The 1935
Courthouse and school (1942) were both WPA projects.
The Knox County Museum is housed in the Courthouse. Famed
Texas Photographer Wyman Meinzer resides in the former
Knox County Jail.
Knox County
Courthouse
There's not
a lot going on in Benjamin, or the rest of the county for that matter.
You might want to check back in about fifty years.
