History in a Pecan Shell

Founded in 1885, Incorporated in 1928

Benjamin is the only town we know of that was named after someone struck by lightning. Benjamin Bedford was the son of the town founder and first postmaster, Hilory H. Bedford.

The 1935 Courthouse and 1942 school were both WPA projects.

The Knox County Museum is housed in the Courthouse.
The former Knox County Jail is now a private residence.
