The
1886 Courthouse is still standing in Hidalgo,
6 miles south of McAllen.
The 1908 Courthouse was razed
to built the 1954 thing they now have.
The photos and postcards
below show the 1908 Hidalgo County Courthouse in various stages of its life. Note
the large cupola on the first three courthouse illustrations. This was damaged
during a storm and shortened. |

In the early
1950s a man, angry at a court decision, brought a bomb to the courthouse
that exploded on the staircase (while still attached to his leg),
causing expensive repairs and a very messy cleanup.
