The Handbook of Texas states that "until 1945 students attended Big Square School, North of Dodd." We have to be curious if they swam in Big Round Pool. Perhaps there was no one to name the school after, so they settled for a description of the building.

Another source mentions that a mausoleum is found in a private cemetery on the North side of Dodd. The tomb is that of I. D. Beasley. Mausoleums are pretty much a novelty west of Fort Worth. Castro County has over 300,000 acres under irrigation, so it doesn't fit the image most people have of West Texas.
