History
in a Pecan Shell
The town came into being in 1908, two years before the arrival of
the Stamford and Northwestern Railway. The town's namesake was Swante
M. Swenson, a Swedish rancher. By 1912, the town's post office had
opened. The Swenson school, established in 1908, consolidated with
Aspermont's ISD in 1945. In 1920 the population was 175. Swenson reached
it's zenith in 1940 when 400 people called the place home.
The Church of Christ is the last of the town's three churches.
The post office has been closed for some 40 years. |
